why is branding so important some might ask. but before we answer this question, let us first define what we know brand and branding is.
What is a brand?
The word “brand” is used a lot especially in both the corporate and business world. Everyone who uses the word branding believes to understand and know what it means, but do they really know? Many people seem to think a brand is a companies business ’ logo, color palette, or Is it their name and tagline?
The truth is all of this also contributes when considering the meaning of a brand, but not in its entirety. Every time your company interacts with a customer, a client, a follower, or any external audience, they’re experiencing your brand. Basically, a brand can be defined as your audience’s perception of your company. Their perception could be a feeling they get when they experience your services or product, or it could be how easily they recognize your brand because they know and recognize how it looks.
A brand is simply the feeling your audiences have towards your company. Your logo, color palette, brand voice, mission statement, emails, website, and anything else your audience might experience that helps them see your company the way you want them to.
Since we have been able to establish what a brand means, lets talk about the main topic which is ‘Branding’. A brand involves perception, branding is managing those perceptions.
Branding is defined as the strategies and tools used to manage and influence the perception of people towards your brand. In the world of branding, every aspect matters. Branding is a vital part of business, it is more important now than ever before. With the emergence of social media, consumers are liable to get exposed to new brands every day. While this is great for consumers, because they are open to options and are able to conduct research and find the best one, but it makes it harder for businesses.
Branding is important because it defines what you do, how you do it, why you do it and what is unique about you that is different from your competitors.
It makes your business trustworthy and recognizable by your customers and also builds consistency.
Branding is important as it can increase a businesses’ value by giving the business more leverage in its industry.
The result of branding is the brand, which incorporates the reputation and value that comes with it. A strong reputation means a strong brand which, in turn translates into value. That value can mean influence, price premium, or mindshare.
Strong branding generally means there is a positive impression of the company amongst consumers, and they are likely to do business with you because of the familiarity and assumed dependability of using a name they can trust. Once a brand has been well-established, word of mouth will be the company’s best and most effective advertising technique.
When an employee works for a strongly branded company and truly stands behind the brand, they will be more satisfied with their job and have a higher degree of pride in the work that they do. Working for a brand that is reputable and held in high regards in public, makes working for that company more enjoyable and fulfilling.
As we have mentioned before, the stakeholders of a brand are not just clients, but also employees. We must be aware of the fact that human interaction is the basis of commerce, and employees are the first line of communication for any brand – the first ambassadors if we must say. Employees that have a good association with the brand will perpetuate that perception further down the line to the clients and partners they interact with. This can also translate into better leadership, more involvement, and better products and services.
